Should Curtains Match Walls or Couch

Installing new curtains is an affordable way to make a room more lively and colorful. It can make your home stylish and interesting for guests and relatives. But what people want to know is if curtains should match walls or couch to work?

Curtains should match the style, texture, size, and color tone of your living room walls and couch. They need to look balanced and intentional to produce the desired effect. Curtains that don’t match will create a style conflict that affects the beauty of the room.

But, this doesn’t mean that it has to be an exact match. Using the same color and materials will make the room look dull and monotonous. You need to create a combination that is efficient and will work well for the room.

Tips on How to Match Your Curtains With Your Living Room Walls and Couch

To ensure that your curtains match your walls and couch, here are a few simple tips you can follow.

Examine Your Living Room To Determine the Style You Need

Before buying your curtains, you need to examine the room to determine its general style. This will help you pick up the right type of curtains to match your existing decorations.

Your living room can have different concepts, like traditional, modern, or eclectic design. Knowing what style to use will make it easier for you to get the curtains you need to match your living room.

Select Curtains with the Appropriate Size

Now that you know what style to use, the next step is to choose the appropriate curtain size.

We recommend you select a curtain that has at least double the width size of your window.  This will make the room look larger and your windows more elegant.

After that, you need to pick one that has the length needed to create the type of curtain style that you prefer.

For example, if you are using a true puddle style, then you need a curtain that has a longer length. It must be at least 6 inches longer than the measurement from the curtain rod to the floor.

Likewise, if you want to use a sill length curtain, then you need one that is shorter. You will need a curtain that is ½ inch shorter than the measurement from the rod to your window sill.

Pick a Curtain with Colors that Match

Select a color that has a slightly darker or lighter tone than your walls. But, if you are planning to use contrasting colors, then you need to pick an accent color from the room. It can either be a shade from your rug or the color of your couch or throw pillows.

It is ideal to build a room using a combination of one neutral color and several base colors. You may also need a couple of accent colors for contrast. But, any combination will work as long as you stay within your chosen color palette.

Choose the Right Curtain Material

It is important to pick the right curtain materials to match the texture of your walls and couch. This will make your decorations look more consistent and coordinated.

For traditional designs, it is great to use cotton, silk, and velvet materials for your curtain. You can pair it with wooden blinds, sheers, or Roman shades for added privacy.

If you are going for a casual look then it is best to use linen and polyester curtain fabrics. While for modern designs, laced and printed curtains are less formal. It will blend well and is ideal for modern decorations.
